Review
Omid - "Monolith"
This is vibe in its purest form.
Already having his hand in LA undergorund hiphop,
Omid Walizadeh is an excellent producer, but this album
surpassed my expectations. A mixture of both intelligent
beat schemata, some old skool boom, strangely fitting
samples, and forceful, attention demanding vocals make this
album one you listen to repeatedly out of sheer compulsion.
Switching evenly between instrumental cuts and vocalized tracks,
Omid keeps you wanting, even after the hour of music end. The
lyrics have a poetic roll, never really rhyming too much
but with the expertly produced mix, makes you want to snap your
fingers as if you were listening to a goateed beatnik beating
a set of bongos as words of introspection flow forth through a
coffeeshop in a time of political injustice...
and there are some moments when the commentary is all to apparent:
"Code Red
Code Orange
Code yellow
Code Pink
Don't Think
Just Nod in agreement"
-Track 12 "Shock and Awe"
Your head will nod in more than one way while enjoying this work.
Mad props to Album 88.5 in Atlanta
for featuring some of the
tracks of this album in recent days. I
wouldn't have heard
of this gem otherwise...
