Seven years.
Kind of hard to believe, but at the same perfectly sensible.
Despite my shortcomings, my procrastination, and my incessant complaining on the blog about life outside of music and gaming, you fine men and women have made it a sheer delight to indulge in my hobby. I feel truly blessed that the people I share my free time and the fruits of my free time with have reciprocated the enjoyment, the praise, and best of all, the encouragement.

So thanks to you all.

Also, a huge thanks to those I have been working with and have been in contact with over the past year on a more professional level:

Jason Wishnov - 'Sequence' project
Demetrius Chevalle - 'Parallax Plus' project
Aaron Ramsey (rmz) - 'Beat Blox' project
Kip Warner - 'Avaneya' project
Tori Yamida - 'GEOSYNCHRO' project
Pet Food Alpha podcast
JP Button podcast
Aetheryte Radio podcast
Back to Hiking podcast
Gamers Anonymous podcast

My discography is essentially an open book. Need something? I'll probably let you have it, so just holla.

The Final Transmissions of Pioneer 16
Still aiming for late fall. Probably in a similar frame of release as Wayward Cyrillic (mid-late November). Might slip into December as it's been a busy springtime for me. Summer tends to be when the most music work gets done, so hopefully I can get some more momentum.

So what is The Final Transmissions of Pioneer 16?
P16 is an exercise in:
-Aimlessness: Like Wayward Cyrillic, there's no core concept. Some tracks do adhere to a 'story' that will be expounded upon later, but I'm freeing myself of musical obligation here and doin' it to do it. One day, I will try again what I tried to do with Borealissé.
-Thievery: Every track conceptualized thus far samples from 5+ other tracks. The name of the game is re-creation, in hopes that it leads to innovation. This hasn't worked out as often as I'd like in the past, but that's no reason to stop trying.
-Range: There's not much middle ground to what I have thus far. Even what I have still to work on, there are wild swings from technical and chaotic, to repetitive and simple. I do finally work my back way into genres I rarely traverse (Filter/French House/Nu-Disco/whatever they call it now, and Trance)
-Collaboration: Back and forth by proxy can be interesting, so we'll see how it goes. I do have an interesting piece in the works with my Nihon-counterpart EvenPromise. It's been tentatively genre'd "Electro-Maritime"...yeah, hopefully its potential is realized.

Well that's all the gushing I got for now.
I'll leave you with a little preview of things to come.

Proof of Concept
DJplaeskool - The Pioneer Anomaly / Minimal Breaks

This track contains samples from the following:
from the track "Bringing Out The Evil" by Fanu (c)2009, Lightless Recordings
from the track "Giant" by The Chemical Brothers (c)2005, Astralwerks
from the track "Everybody" by Basement Jaxx (c)2006, XL Recordings
from the track "Celestial Annihilation" by UNKLE (c)1998, Mo Wax Recordings
from the film "Zatoichi" (c)1989, Shochiku Company/Katsu Productions

Don't worry if you don't catch it. Most of the samples are a fraction of a second long and tinkered with to the point of no recognition, but I'm obligated to let you all know. A lot of P16 could end up this way.

Anyways, the primary point of order is the drum pattern, which for this prototype is taken right from the Fanu track. I'll be spending some time mixing this up and adding instruments to flesh it out a bit, though it sounds really nice as it is. I haven't been hiding the fact that I'm absolutely in love with Fanu's style as a musician. I've made a lot of strides to be able to even remotely mimic the things he does. I've had a tough time programming drums and having the ending result be smooth. Sometimes edge is good, but not all the time. So here's a shout out to you Fanu. Let it be known that you have at least one rabid fan in Atlanta.

Update coming in the next couple weeks.
Been busy, busy, and more busy,
but hopefully a lot of the planning and work I've put
into a number of projects start
coming to
fruition.

Year of the Tiger

First off, and big 明けましておめでとう to everyone.
I'm glad, glad, very glad that 2009 has come to an end. A combination of work and personal drama had been an unwanted mute, so I'm glad it is, for the most part, over and I can start the new year on a slightly brighter note.
It's been a while since my last update here, so I'll dispense with the goods here and now...

DJplaeskool - Eldritch Veil / Ambient / Original (Inspired by FFXIV)

"Eldritch Veil", as you probably know, is a line given during the E3 trailer for Final Fantasy XIV. Only recently, however, we got our first ghastly glimpse at the type of hardware our soon to be antagonists will be piloting.
This track is a deep, pulsating, and pretty ominous environmental piece. I opted to give it life with the rumbles and screeches of mystical engines, single note drones, and deep vocal tones.

DJplaeskool - 春の季節風 Spring Monsoons / Melodic Electro / Original

This is Teikuu's finale.
It took a while to piece the guitar and wind parts together to get it sound coherent without the beat and distorted bass, but I think it came out very well. A fitting end to a productive experiment...

I hope over the past year the melodic and minimal pieces have been a pleasure for you. Teikuu was started for the sole purpose of getting me familiar with some different methods of production, be it software or hardware, sampled or recorded.
It's time for me to put it all into a more focused practice now. It is on that note that I announce my next project...

More information as the year presses on. Also, once FFXIV comes out and raw music is out and about, the remixin' will begin, so stay tuned.

雪女の魅了 The Snow Mistress's Allure / Ambient + Funk / Original

Throughout this simple number, floating synths, droning tones, and distant hits are buffeted by classic funk percussion that's not at all covert...a little Bob James, a little Dennis Coffey, and a lot of James Brown. There's very little movement overall in this piece musically, in much the way I like a lot of tracks, change is pedestrian at best, so those who aren't paying attention will miss the little details. I really love working on slower, more moving tracks like this, as it really helps me calm my nerves...as work/life/etc has really made me a ball of nerves recently...

Anyways, I've got a gig at an art house in a couple months and I am hoping to actually pull this and a couple other tracks off live. I've been in the process of gathering some of the sample materials in a more raw form digitally, and I've managed to get my hands on some vinyls as well...we'll see how that goes I guess...

DJplaeskool - 南極星の諸島 (Islands of the Southern Stars) / Original / Breakbeat

This anthemic entry is a spiritual successor to the Wayward Cyrillic track Sphaira.
This track is a strange exercise in how far some serendipitous reverb and delay can go.
The drum track did an odd dance between overpowering, and underwhelming over the production cycle. I like where it landed in the end, as Id rather have it a little quiet, giving precedence to the synths. It sounds just right on most sound systems, though a little synth heavy on others.

Also, happy 6th Birthday djplaeskool.com!

I'll spare everyone the sob stories and sappy outpourings of years past.
I would like to simply thank you all for not only being my fondest listeners, but also for being some of my dearest friends.

Thank you.

DJplaeskool - 梅雨Fresh / Original / Minimal Techno/Acid Jazz

Kinda jazzy, kinda funky, kinda laid-back, kinda tech-ish...difficult to categorize indeed... This little number, on top of being first in the Teikuu line, was also contributed to an upcoming Xbox Live Community Game.

Fresh for '09

Hey everyone. Hope 2009 is going well for all of you out there.

I'm gonna try my hand at a slightly different method of music-makin' this year...one that will lead to some pretty spontaneous tracks. I tested these stylistic waters a bit with the track Ghostwalking in Wayward Cyrillic.
I've been toying with unsequenced production ever since I started messing with Ableton and using USB inputs and interfaces. Now I want to put it into larger practice. I've also been getting hyped up for it over the past couple months, so I think I'm gonna hit the (|スタートバトン|).

Project for 2009
低空 "Teikuu"
Minimal Techno/Ambient/Electronica

You could consider this a spiritual, yet smaller scoped successor to Borealissé.
Tracks will start coming out next month.
RL stuff keeping me on my toes, so they will most likely release one at a time every few weeks I reckon...

Until next time.

Releases and such
Many things have yet to be done, but things are getting done nonetheless.
If you didn't know, I have moved to a different company, and I've been training at a feverish rate over the past couple weeks. Delays in this and that were more or less a given leading up to the summer...but I think I'm on more even ground so I can estimate accurately.
Waywad Cyrillic should be out in Mid-November. I'll have a more concrete date in the coming weeks...
Drum and Bass mix Sessions in Sanskrit, Part 2: Pyxidis should be available later Sunday, Sep 7th.

Busy, Busy, Busy...
Heyo folks.
Real life matters have gotten me bogged down as of recent.
I'm still working diligently on a lot of other stuff as well...but I wanted to pop in and give you all a little update...
On the music front, I'll be putting out a house mix next week (June 12), it's kinda deep, a little abstract...so stay tuned for that.
Work on the site continues, though it's slowed a lot. A redesign is being drafted, though it's a long way off...
See you all in a couple weeks.

Fantasy Phantasy

Yo. Just stoppin' by to deliver the goods.
Peep the blog/blog for more in depth looks at the two tracks...
So...without further ado:

Naoshi Mizuta (remixed by djplaeskool) - The Mithra Freesword (Windurst [S] Remix) / FFXI Remix / Tribal House

Somewhat of a minimalist take on percussive house genres, The simple melody is braced by auxiliary instruments.

Hideaki Kobayashi (remixed by djplaeskool) - Collective Shadows Surround Us (Endrum Collective Remix) / PSU Remix / Glitch Techno

Noisy electrical scapes, breaks, and sounds defy the ambient overtones in this homage to late-90s style electronica.

Enjoy.

More Housekeeping...

Hey people.
Just wanted to present a few points of information for the near future.
First off, I've established a new personal blog locally, Kynósoura. It will eventually replace my livejournal blog, but for now, I will crosspost on both, as I still have some things to implement. Feel free to visit either one.

Secondly, I'm, once again, brushing the dust off of Music page. I've updated the embedded music players and I'm in the process of archiving other things.

Lastly, I'll be releasing some new remixes next week. One from PSU, one from FFXI (and for those of you who remembered me saying I wasn't gonna do FFXI stuff anymore, well...I wasn't expecting there to be another expansion...so sue me...)

...please don't sue me.

A belated present

DJplaeskool - Crossing the [S]avanna / FFXI Remix / Hip-hop

Here's a FFXI remix of Sarutabaruta [S] for you all.
I go into a little more detail in the blog, but long-story-short, this is an exercise in traditional hip-hop built for vocalists, and is a departure from my normal trip-hop fare.
Enjoy. 平和

Fly your own banner

Wayward Cyrillic will release next year.
This time, there's no concept. Much like Decrying the Ellipsis it will be a hodgepodge sounds and styles...
Though it'll veer toward more intense genres. More info will become available in the near future.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years guys and gals.
Stay safe.

Updates and What-not

I'm kinda going through the different pages, cleaning this and that up. Links may jump in and out of operatioin briefly over the course of the next few days.
Also, if you get assorted garbage text/characters on the page, try changing the encoding temporarily to JP/Shift-JIS on your browser.

I've also taken the liberty to update the profile page with some real info about myself, the site, and the music.
Please go check it out, and learn a bit of the plaeskool mythos...the story of a man trying to become more than just some guy who posts bad music on the internet :D

Solowing Solo

Droppin' in to present another groove for you all...

DJplaeskool - (Protecting My) Diaphanous Skies / Remix / Hip-hop Dub

This is a mostly harmonic take on some of the tracks from the game Panzer Dragoon Saga. It highlights different musical aspects of the songs "Dragon Spirit", "Sealed Spirit", "Dream", and focuses primarily on "The Town of Zoah." It's not the longest of pieces, but all in all I like the overall feel of the buildup and releases in it. Hope you enjoy.

...and by early October, I mean late October...

Just popping to first and foremost apologize for recent inaction.
If you've checked my blog update from yesterday, I go over, in detail, personal drama that has gripped me over the past several weeks. Also, if you don't check my blog, Sylphymn, then you may have missed a little number I put together...

Hybrid (remixed by DJplaeskool) - Dreaming Your Dreams (Isolde's Hook Mix) / Remix / Liquid Funk

Nothing overly complex here. I let the three note hook from Hybrid's Dreaming Your Dreams take complete control and deform the sound around that for the duration. Instead of prolonged sub-bass here, however, I opted for pulsating individual bass tones, to add a little precursory movement that would otherwise be missing.

Stay tuned to my blog in the coming week for an in depth look into the PSU expansion.
That has occupied a fair amount of my time as of recent and just might give some of you who stopped playing the original to give the game a second look.

Just a little update

Hey there kiddos.
It's been a couple months since Borealissé's release, and I've managed somehow to clear my mind and continue working on upcoming stuff.
Keep on the lookout in early October, I want to get back into the full swing of things.
If you noticed some stuff seemingly missing in the music page, I've moved the 2004 stuff into the archive page to shorten up the page length. I'll be doing some of this and that to the site, so if you catch anything I may have overlooked, just drop me an email

In the meantime, I've cooked up a little mix for you all to pour over and intake...

DJplaeskool - not quite LIVE from DUNWOODY COURTYARDS // Mix // Breaks (varied) // 43:51
A little this, a little that, a little noisy, a little harmonic.
This is a selection of tunes that span the gamut from drum breaks, to anthem breaks, to almost break house. Not quite live. Almost, but not quite...
